An Introduction to Leathercraft

This course is a beginners course suitable for everyone

About the course

During this course, students are introduced to the various tools needed to complete a leathercraft project, in this case a credit card wallet. First, you will mark the outline from the template provided on to the leather hide, then it's time to cut out the pattern. Next, you will choose the embellishments you wish to add to your wallet, such as what color to dye, thread color, and optional stamping, including the option to personalize with your name or select from our extensive 2D and 3D stamp collection. Afterward it's time to punch all the sewing holes and hand sew the whole piece together. Finally you will burnish the edges to achieve a smooth finish.

An Introduction to Carving Leather

Duration: Six hours

This course is a beginners course suitable for everyone

About the course

In this course you will first be introduced to the swivel knife and then shown how to use it. The next step will be to introduce you to the various chisels used to carve the leather and shown the exact purpose of each chisel as well as the correct order in which to use them. Now comes time to transfer the artwork on to the leather using a ball point stylus, once that is complete you will begin to make your cuts with the swivel knife and then work your way through each of the chisels adding more and more texture as you go. You will be left with a beautiful piece of 3-D artwork.

Make your dog a collar course

Duration: Two hours
Cost: €50.00 per person

This course is a beginners course suitable for everyone

About the course

In this course you will use a strap cutter to cut the collar blanks from the leather hide. You will then proceed to use an edge beveller to round off the edges of the strap. After this you will punch the various holes needed into the blanks and finally you will assemble the buckle, D ring, keeper and blank, glue them up and sew it all together.

About the course

In this course you will cut out the pattern using the corresponding template for reference. After this you will use the swivel knife to cut the outline of your design and then proceed to use a mallet and a bevelling chisel to define the edges and the various other chisels to achieve the correct textures. The next step will be to choose the colour of dye that you prefer and apply it to the piece. After this you will glue up the pieces and then punch out the stitching holes and choosing the colour thread you want to use , stitch it all together. The final step will be to burnish the edges using some canvas and water.

This course is a beginners course suitable for everyone

About the course

In this course you will be cutting out a panel of leather to insert into a blank rubber case for your particular brand and make of phone. You will then choose which design you wish to add to the panel. After that you will use the swivel knife to cut out the outline of the design. Then you will use the various chisels to define the edges and add texture before coming back to the swivel knife for some decorative cuts. Once the design is finished you will add a splash of colour using acrylic paints and then apply an antique gel that will gather in the recessed parts of those decorative cuts to make the design really pop out. The final step will be to glue the panel onto the blank case.

This course is a beginners course suitable for everyone

About the course

In this course you will begin by choosing a buckle for your belt project and depending on the size of the buckle you will use the strap cutter to cut the corresponding belt blank from the leather hide. After this you will choose which colour you want to dye the belt and dye it. The next step will be to punch the various holes needed. You will then use the edge beveller to round off the edges. After gluing up the two blanks you will use various size stitching punches to make the holes for stitching and you will hand stitch the belt together. Finally, you will burnish the edges of the belt with some gum tragacanth and a wooden burnishing tool.

This course is a beginners course suitable for everyone

About the course

In this course you will use the provided templates to cut out the various component pieces from the different thickness of leather hides. You will then choose the colour that you wish to dye the wallet and apply it. After this step you will glue the pieces together and then punch the holes for stitching and stitch it all together. The final step will be to burnish the edges with some gum tragacanth and the burnishing tool

Make your own handbag course

Duration: Eighteen hours
Cost: €420.00 per person

This course is a beginners course suitable for everyone

About the course

In this course you will choose the style of handbag that you wish to make and use the corresponding template to mark out the leather for cutting. After you have cut out the leather you will choose the design that you wish to apply to the bag and trace it on to the leather panel. Now it is time to start carving the design, first you will use the swivel knife to cut the outline of the design into the leather then proceed to use the various chisels to give the design depth and texture. After applying acrylic paints and an antique gel to the design it will be time to dye the rest of the bag. Next comes the preparation for assembling the bag. Firstly you will choose the method of closure and punch the corresponding holes for the hardware , then you will punch out the holes around the perimeter in preparation for lacing the project together. After choosing which colour lace you would like to use you will apply any hardware, glue the pieces together and then begin the lacing process. When the lacing is finished you will apply a coat of Super Shene that will make their artwork nice and glossy as well as adding a layer of protection.
